Bar Supervisor/Assistant Cocktail Coordinator
Location: Runner Up Rooftop Bar, Collingwood, VIC, 3066
Employment Type: Casual – Approx 15 hrs per week to begin – Increased hours available.

Runner Up is Collingwood’s premier rooftop bar, situated above the Collingwood Yards. We pride ourselves on crafting innovative, quality cocktails, an expansive and locally focussed rotating wine list and providing exceptional service in a relaxed, casual setting. Our team is dedicated to creating memorable experiences for our guests, and we’re seeking a dynamic new addition to our team to help spearhead new and exciting cocktails.
Position Overview
- As a Bar Supervisor at Runner Up, you will be responsible for overseeing all bar operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, and leading a talented team of bartenders whilst cultivating a positive environment for the staff. As a Bar Supervisor you will be responsible for counting tills, setting and adjusting comfortable audio and lighting levels around the venue, conferring with DJ’s and Crowd Controllers, handling any complaints/concerns and working with licensing and relevant authorities in a polite and professional manner.
- As the Assistant Cocktail Coordinator you will be working alongside the GM and Directors to help craft new and exciting cocktails, spritzers and drink offerings whilst also using your experience to help implement any cost saving initiatives, existing recipe modifications, serving suggestions etc.
- Your ability to be flexible in your role will be pivotal in maintaining the quality and consistency of our cocktail offerings, working cohesively with staff and helping create a vibrant, engaging, casual atmosphere for both guests and staff.
*You will be expected to work bartender (non-supervisor) shifts under other members of the management team when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Cocktail Excellence: Lead by example in crafting and presenting innovative cocktails. Utilise your extensive cocktail experience to maintain and enhance our menu.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate bar staff. Ensure high levels of performance, professionalism, and adherence to operational standards.
- Customer Experience: Deliver exceptional service by interacting with guests, handling inquiries and complaints, and ensuring a memorable experience for every patron.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily bar operations including opening and closing procedures, and compliance with relevant licensing and authorities.
- Menu Development: Collaborate with the management team to develop and refresh the cocktail menu, incorporating seasonal ingredients and current trends.
- Financial Oversight: Work with management to implement cost-effective practices without compromising quality.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and presentation at the bar and surrounding areas.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in a cocktail bar in a supervisor or management position, with a proven track record in creating and serving high-quality cocktails.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer Service: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a focus on providing outstanding guest experiences.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of cocktail recipes, techniques, and current trends. Familiarity with bar equipment and inventory management.
- Certification: Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification and other relevant qualifications.
- Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights and specifically weekends – Runner Up trades Tuesday-Sunday during the warmer months.
- Adaptability: The ability to adapt to the role that you have been assigned for the shift is key at Runner Up. You may find yourself in charge of a whole team on a Saturday night, other times you may simply be bartending with another team member as the Supervisor. Respect and adaptability are key in being a part of the Runner Up team.
